18. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014)

IMDB Entry – A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night

An interesting movie but what the heck was I watching?  Advertised as an Iranian movie, it turns out it’s a American movie, filmed in California, using an English director of Iranian decent and Iranian actors.

Ok but what about the film?  When I first started watching I was amazed at life in Iran.  Nothing like what I thought. The people lived in houses with indoor plumbing, one of the characters was a pimp and a drug dealer, there were hookers walking around at night, people ate hamburgers, still played records, listened to 80’s music and the guys dressed like John Travolta in Grease.

I thought Iran had a strict religious government and any sinners would have something cut off immediately.  I’d say the message was American culture always triumphs, but was this even supposed to be Iran or just the director’s fantasy?

This movie is really slow.  There are several scenes of people looking at each other that seem to go on forever.    The vampire girl actually uses the slowness and lack of motion to good effect giving her a mysterious quality. The black and white photography was a nice touch and definitely added to the atmosphere.

topic, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about!

  3. Howdy would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using?
I’m looking to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a hard time
    selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!
