IMDB Entry – Night of the Living Dead
The big budget remake of George Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead thrilled the audience at the festival on the big night. The principals from the original movie, Romero, John Russo and Russ Striener all had input and long time collaborator Tom Salvini directed. It’s the same story but just when you think you know what’s about to happen, something different happens. That’s the last comparison I’ll make to the original as this version stands on it’s own.
This is a movie about the frustration of being right but overruled by some one with more charisma. Three characters have a plan to survive and two plans end up working. Unfortunately the group goes for the disastrous plan proposed by the “hero”. The movie casts the protective father as the heavy with the fearless loner as the courageous leader while they both ignore the logical woman.
The movie takes about 45 seconds until it kicks into high gear. With only a few breathers, it’s pretty much non stop action with some definite jump out of your seat moments. The movie is filled with top notch special effects and Chilly Billy put in a brief cameo.
